Յետ սակա՛ւ ժամանակաց հազարապետն արքայի Լիւսիաս իբրեւ լուաւ, մեծա՛ւ բարկութեամբ` լի՛ նախանձու ծանրացեալ տրտմէր ՛ի վերայ գործոցն եղելոց[246]:
11:1
Not long after the, Lysias the king' s protector and cousin, who also managed the affairs, took sore displeasure for the things that were done:
11:2
Զօրաժողով լինէր, կուտէր ութսուն հազար. եւ զամենայն զօրսն հեծելազօր` ո՛ւթ բիւրուն հանդերձ ընդ ի՛ւր առնոյր. ընդ իւր առեալ խաղայր ՛ի վերայ Եբրայեցւոցն, ՛ի մտի՛ եդեալ զքաղաքն գլխաւոր բնակութիւն առնել հեթանոսաց[247]:
11:2
And when he had gathered about fourscore thousand with all the horsemen, he came against the Jews, thinking to make the city an habitation of the Gentiles:
11:3
Եւ զտաճարն սրբութեան դրամաժողով ՛ի վարձո՛ւ կացուցանել իբրեւ զայլ մեհեանս. եւ զքահանայապետութիւնն ինքնին վարձկան գանձուն կացուցանել ամ յամէ[248]:
11:3
And to make a gain of the temple, as of the other chapels of the heathen, and to set the high priesthood to sale every year:

Զմտաւ ինչ ո՛չ ածէր զզօրութիւնն Աստուծոյ` հպարտացեալ մտօք ՛ի բեւրս բիւրուց զհետեւակն եւ զհեծելազօրն, եւ զփիղսն աղխաղխեալ տանէր[249]:
11:4
Not at all considering the power of God but puffed up with his ten thousands of footmen, and his thousands of horsemen, and his fourscore elephants:
11:5
Այլ իբրեւ ՛ի Հրէաստան մխեցաւ, եւ մե՛րձ եղեւ յամուրսն Բեթսովրայ որ մերձ է յԵրուսաղէմ իբրեւ ասպարիսօք հինգ, պատէ՛ր բիւրուքն, եւ ՛ի նե՛ղ մեծ զամուրն հասուցանէր[250]:

So he came to Judea, and drew near to Bethsura, which was a strong town, but distant from Jerusalem about five furlongs, and he laid sore siege unto it:
11:6
Իբրեւ ա՛զդ եղեւ Մակաբէացւոցն պաշարումն ամրոյն իւրեանց, ողբո՛վք եւ արտասուօք անկեալ ժողովրդովքն հանդերձ աղաչէին զԱստուած, հրեշտակ բարութեան առաքել ՛ի փրկութիւն Իսրայէլացւոց[251]:

Now when they that were with Maccabeus heard that he besieged the holds, they and all the people with lamentation and tears besought the Lord that he would send a good angel to deliver Israel:
11:7
Եւ ինքն Մակաբէ նախ յառաջագոյն ՛ի զէն ընթանայր. եւ զօրացն հրամա՛ն տայր վառել կազմել պատրաստել` աշխատութիւն յանձն առնուլ, լինել օգնական եղբարցն որ ՛ի նեղութեանն էին:

Then Maccabeus himself first of all took weapons, exhorting the other that they would jeopard themselves together with him to help their brethren: so they went forth together with a willing mind:
11:8
յայնմ ժամանակի` միաբան միահաւան վառեալ պատրաստեալ յառաջ մատչէին: Ա՛յն ինչ լինէր նոցա մերձ ՛ի կողմն քաղաքին Երուսաղեմացւոց հասանել. եկն է՛ջ առաջի նոցա այր մի սպիտակաձի յոսկիազէն վառեալ, ճօճէր զնիզակն եւ պատրաստէր յարձակել[252]:

And as they were at Jerusalem, there appeared before them on horseback one in white clothing, shaking his armour of gold:
11:9
Եւ առ հասարակ ամենեքին խրախո՛յս բարձեալ օրհնէին զողորմածն Աստուած. եւ ա՛յնպէս քաջալերեալք եւ զօրացեալք էին, ՛ի մտի եդեալ յարձակեալ երթային. իբրեւ ո՛չ եթէ մարդկան ՛ի դիմի՛ հարկանելոց երթային, այլ թէ եւ գազանք ինչ` անհնարին պատահեսցեն, եւ կամ պարիսպք երկաթիք, հարկանել սատակել կործանել թա՛փ անցանել[253]:

Then they praised the merciful God all together, and took heart, insomuch that they were ready not only to fight with men, but with most cruel beasts, and to pierce through walls of iron:
11:10
համարձա՛կ յարձակէին. նիզակակից զերկնաւորն ողորմութեամբ իւրով յանձինս ընկալեալ[254]:
11:10
Thus they marched forward in their armour, having an helper from heaven: for the Lord was merciful unto them:
11:11
Եւ ա՛յնպէս վարազախառն առիւծաբար յա՛ր արձակեցան ՛ի վերայ գնդին թշնամեաց. եւ անդէն ՛ի նմին տեղւոջ հարին տապաստ արկին մետասան հազար զընտիր զօր, եւ հազար հեծեալ ՛ի վերայ հազարացն[255]:

And giving a charge upon their enemies like lions, they slew eleven thousand footmen, and sixteen hundred horsemen, and put all the other to flight:
11:12
Եւ զամենայն զօրսն ՛ի փախուստ դարձուցանէին. եւ բազումք ՛ի նոցանէ խո՛ց վիրաւորք` եւ ապիկար մերկանդա՛մք փախստեայք ապրեցան: Եւ ինքն Լիւսիաս կորակոր փախուցեալ մազապո՛ւր լինէր[256]:

Many of them also being wounded escaped naked; and Lysias himself fled away shamefully, and so escaped:

Իբր ո՛չ եթէ անմիտ ինչ լինէր յանձն իւր վասն իւրոյ վատթարութեանն. ՛ի մտի՛ եդեալ խօսէր անհնարինս առ յաղթութիւն ասէր զԵբրայեցիսն, հզօրին Աստուծոյ օգնական լինել նոցա. եւ առաքեաց զնոսա: Եւ յղեաց զկնի նոցա հաշտութիւն առնել ՛ի վերայ ամենայն իրաւանցն:
11:13
Who, as he was a man of understanding, casting with himself what loss he had had, and considering that the Hebrews could not be overcome, because the Almighty God helped them, he sent unto them:
11:14
Եւ թագաւորն եւս յա՛նձն առ. եւ զթագաւորին միտս հաճեաց, բարեկամ լինել ընդ նմա[257]:
11:14
And persuaded them to agree to all reasonable conditions, and promised that he would persuade the king that he must needs be a friend unto them:
11:15
Յա՛նձն առ Յուդա զոր միանգամ Լիւսին աղաչեաց զնա, վասն օգտի ուխտի խորհրդոցն հասարակաց. եւ որչափ միանգամ Մակաբէ նամակեաց Լիւսիաս վասն Հրէիցն, թողացո՛յց նոցա արքայն[258]:

Then Maccabeus consented to all that Lysias desired, being careful of the common good; and whatsoever Maccabeus wrote unto Lysias concerning the Jews, the king granted it:
11:16
Եւ էին առ Հրէայս թուղթք գրեալ օրինակաւս այսուիկ. Լիւսիա՛ս առ գունդն Հրէից ողջոյն:
11:16
For there were letters written unto the Jews from Lysias to this effect: Lysias unto the people of the Jews sendeth greeting:
11:17
Յոհաննէս եւ Աբեսաղոմ որ առ մեզ ՛ի ձէնջ առաքեցան, մատուցին մեզ իբրեւ ՛ի ձէնջ գիրն էր, եւ աղաչէին որ ինչ ՛ի նմա գրեալ էր: Եւ որչափ ինչ թողուլ արժան էր` թողի՛[259]:

John and Absolom, who were sent from you, delivered me the petition subscribed, and made request for the performance of the contents thereof:
11:18
եւ որչափ ինչ ցուցանել էր թագաւորին` ցուցի. զի թո՛յլ լիցի ձեզ վասն ձերոց իրաց:
11:18
Therefore what things soever were meet to be reported to the king, I have declared them, and he hath granted as much as might be:
11:19
ինչ որ գրեալ էր մեզ ընդ ձեզ խնա՛մ անկցի: Եւ յայսմ հետէ առաւե՛լ եւս ջանացայց լինել ձեզ պատճառք բարեաց:
11:19
And if then ye will keep yourselves loyal to the state, hereafter also will I endeavour to be a means of your good:
11:20
եւ որ յապա ինչ իցէ, պատուէր տուաք խօսել ընդ ձեզ:
11:20
But of the particulars I have given order both to these and the other that came from me, to commune with you:

եւ դուք ո՛ղջ լիջիք: Յամին հարիւրորդի քառասներորդի ութերորդի, յորմզդական տօնին, որ օր քսանեւչորք էին[260]:

Fare ye well. The hundred and eight and fortieth year, the four and twentieth day of the month Dioscorinthius:
11:22
Իսկ հրովարտակք արքունի գրեալ էր ա՛յսպէս. Արքայ Անտիոքոս` առ եղբայր Լիւսիաս` ողջո՛յն[261]:

Now the king' s letter contained these words: King Antiochus unto his brother Lysias sendeth greeting:
11:23
Հայրն մեր իբրեւ ՛ի դիցն պաշտօն փոխեցաւ, կամեցաք զի որ ընդ մերով թագաւորութեամբ իցեն` առանց խռովութեան լիցին:
11:23
Since our father is translated unto the gods, our will is, that they that are in our realm live quietly, that every one may attend upon his own affairs:
11:24
Զո՞ այլ զոք առաւել քան զՀրէայսդ. զի նախ նոքա՛ ո՛չ հաճեցան զհօրն ՛ի հեթանոսութիւն դառնալոյ. վասն այսորիկ աղաչեցին թողութիւն առնել զօրէնսն իւրեանց[262]:
11:24
We understand also that the Jews would not consent to our father, for to be brought unto the custom of the Gentiles, but had rather keep their own manner of living: for the which cause they require of us, that we should suffer them to live after their own laws:
11:25
Յա՛նձն առաք եւ զայս ազգ առանց խռովութեան լինել. հրամա՛ն տուաք` զտաճարն անդրէն նոցին դարձուցանել, եւ զնոսա գրգել ըստ օրէնս նախնեաց իւրեանց:
11:25
Wherefore our mind is, that this nation shall be in rest, and we have determined to restore them their temple, that they may live according to the customs of their forefathers:
11:26
Արդ լա՛ւ եւ բարւո՛ք արասցես. առաքեսցե՛ս դու առ նոսա, ո՛ւխտ արասցես, եւ դաշի՛նս կռեսցես. զի գիտասցեն նոքա զմե՛ր առ իւրեանս զխնամ կամաց, եւ խրախամիտ լիցին. մտադիւրագո՛յն շրջիցին, օգնականութիւն գտեալ զիւրեանցն օրինաց[263]:

Thou shalt do well therefore to send unto them, and grant them peace, that when they are certified of our mind, they may be of good comfort, and ever go cheerfully about their own affairs:
11:27
Հրովարտակն արքունի օրինակաւս այսուիկ գրեալ էր. Արքա՛յ Անտիոքոս` առ ծերակոյտն Հրէից, եւ առ զօրս եւ առ գունդս Հրէից ընտանի՛ ողջոյն[264]:

And the letter of the king unto the nation of the Jews was after this manner: King Antiochus sendeth greeting unto the council, and the rest of the Jews:

Ո՛ղջ լիջիք. եւ եղիցի ամենայն որպէս եւ մեք կամիմք. եւ մեք իսկ ո՛ղջ եմք:
11:28
If ye fare well, we have our desire; we are also in good health:
11:29
Եցո՛յց ա՛յսպէս մեզ Լիւսիաս, եթէ կամիցիք դուք իջանել առ Հրէայսդ որ են յԵրուսաղէմ[265]:
11:29
Menelaus declared unto us, that your desire was to return home, and to follow your own business:
11:30
ա՛յն որ այժմիկ գնա՛ւ ունիցին` մինչեւ յերեսունն Ահեկանի ամսեան ձե՛ռն տուեալ լիցի. դաշի՛նս հաստատեալ[266]:
11:30
Wherefore they that will depart shall have safe conduct till the thirtieth day of Xanthicus with security:
11:31
թողութեան դիւրութեան քաղցրութեան` ընդ Հրէայսն, կա՛լ դոցա յիւրեանց օրէնս եւ ՛ի կրօնս որպէս յառաջն, եւ մի՛ ումեք նեղել զնոսա մի՛ով իւիք օրինակաւ[267]:

And the Jews shall use their own kind of meats and laws, as before; and none of them any manner of ways shall be molested for things ignorantly done:
11:32
Այլ մեք արձակեցաք զԼիւսիաս, եւ զՄենեղաւոս` մխիթարե՛լ զձեզ. եւ դուք ո՛ղջ լիջիք:
11:32
I have sent also Menelaus, that he may comfort you:
11:33
Յամին հարիւրորդի քառասներորդի ութերորդի, յամսեանն Ահեկանի, որ օր հնգետասա՛ն էր:

Fare ye well. In the hundred forty and eighth year, and the fifteenth day of the month Xanthicus:

Առաքեցին եւ Հռոմայեցիքն օրինակաւս այսուիկ. Կոյինդոս Մեմիոս, Տիտոս Մանիոս` գլխաւորք Հռոմայեցւոց, առ ժողովուրդդ Հեբրայեցւոց ողջո՛յն[268]:

The Romans also sent unto them a letter containing these words: Quintus Memmius and Titus Manlius, ambassadors of the Romans, send greeting unto the people of the Jews:

Վասն որոյ իրաց Լիւսիաս եղբայր թագաւորին թողութիւն արար ձեզ, հաճեա՛լ եմք եւ մեք[269]:

Whatsoever Lysias the king' s cousin hath granted, therewith we also are well pleased:
11:36
Այլ ինչ որ զինչ արժա՛ն է ՛ի մէնջ մատուցանել արքայի ինչ` տո՛ւք արագագոյն բերել խորհեցեալ իմաստութեամբ, զի դիցուք օրէնս մի որպէս արժա՛ն իցէ օգտե՛լ վասն ձեր. զի մեք աւադիկ յառաջագոյն երթամք ՛ի քաղաքն Անտիոքացւոց[270]:

But touching such things as he judged to be referred to the king, after ye have advised thereof, send one forthwith, that we may declare as it is convenient for you: for we are now going to Antioch:

վասն այսորիկ փութացարո՛ւք, եւ յղեցէ՛ք դուք զոք, զի եւ մեք գիտասցո՛ւք յորպիսի խորհուրդս կայք դուք[271]:

Therefore send some with speed, that we may know what is your mind:

Ո՛ղջ լիջիք: Յամին հարիւրորդի քառասներորդի ութերորդի, յորմզդական տօնին եդան դաշինքս այս[272]:
