13:1
Զի ընդունա՛յն էին ամենայն մարդիկ բնութեամբ յորս էր աստուածանգիտութիւն, եւ յերեւելի բարութեանցն ո՛չ կարացին գիտել զայն որ էրն, եւ ո՛չ ՛ի գործս հայեցեալ ծանեան զճարտարապետն[191]:

13:1
1. For verily all men by nature vain who had no perception of God, And from the good things that are seen they gained not power to know him that is, Neither by giving heed to the works did they recognise the artificer;
13:1 Surely vain are all men by nature, who are ignorant of God, and could not out of the good things that are seen know him that is: neither by considering the works did they acknowledge the workmaster:
13:2
Այլ կամ զհուր, կամ զհողմ, կամ զօդ երագ, կամ զաստեղաց շրջանս, կամ զջրոց բռնութիւնս, կամ զլուսաւորս երկնաւորս` զարբանեակս աշխարհի` աստուածս համարեցան[192]:

13:2
2. But either fire, or wind, or swift air, Or circling stars, or raging water, or luminaries of heaven, They thought to be gods that rule the world.
13:2 But deemed either fire, or wind, or the swift air, or the circle of the stars, or the violent water, or the lights of heaven, to be the gods which govern the world:
13:3
Ընդ որոց թէ ընդ գեղն զուարճացեալք` զնոսա աստուածս կարծիցեն, գիտասցեն թէ ո՞րչափ եւս նոցա Տէրն առաւե՛լ լա՛ւ է. զի որ գեղեցկութեան արարչապետն է` նա՛ հաստատեաց զնոսա[193]:

13:3
3. And if it was through delight in their beauty that they took them to be gods, Let them know how much better than these is their Sovereign Lord; For the first author of beauty created them:
13:3 With whose beauty if they being delighted took them to be gods; let them know how much better the Lord of them is: for the first author of beauty hath created them:
13:4
Ապա թէ ընդ զօրութիւնս եւ ընդ ազդեցութիւնս զարմանայցեն, իմասցին ՛ի նոցանէն` ո՞րչափ եւս որ կազմեացն զնոսա առաւե՛լ զօրաւոր է[194]:

13:4
4. But if it was through astonishment at their power and influence, Let them understand from them how much more powerful is he that formed them;
13:4 But if they were astonished at their power and virtue, let them understand by them, how much mightier he is that made them:
13:5
Զի ՛ի մեծութենէ եւ ՛ի գեղեցկութենէ արարածոյն ըստ նմին համեմատութեան եւ արարչագործն նոցա երեւի[195]:

13:5
5. For from the greatness of the beauty even of created things In like proportion does man form the image of their first maker.
13:5 For by the greatness and beauty of the creatures proportionably the maker of them is seen:
13:6
Բայց սակայն տակաւին եւ նոցա գոյ սակաւ ինչ մեղադրութիւն. զի եւ նոքա թերեւս մոլորեալք խնդրեն զԱստուած` եւ կամին գտանել[196]:

13:6
6. But yet for these men there is but small blame, For they too peradventure do go astray While they are seeking God and desiring to find him.
13:6 But yet for this they are the less to be blamed: for they peradventure err, seeking God, and desirous to find him:
13:7
Ընդ գործս նորա յածեալ` քննեն, եւ հաւանին տեսլեամբն թէ բարւոք են երեւելիքս:

13:7
7. For living among his works they make diligent search, And they yield themselves up to sight, because the things that they look upon are beautiful.
13:7 For being conversant in his works they search him diligently, and believe their sight: because the things are beautiful that are seen:
13:8
Դարձեալ` եւ նոքա ո՛չ են ներելիք:

13:8
8. But again even they are not to be excused.
13:8 Howbeit neither are they to be pardoned:
13:9
Զի թէ ա՛յնչափ կարացին գիտել` զի բաւակա՛ն լինիցին նկատել զաշխարհս. զսոցա Տէրն զիա՞րդ ո՛չ գտին վաղվաղակի[197]:

13:9
9. For if they had power to know so much, That they should be able to explore the course How is it that they did not sooner find the Sovereign Lord of these
13:9 For if they were able to know so much, that they could aim at the world; how did they not sooner find out the Lord thereof:
13:10
Թշուառակա՛նք են` եւ ՛ի մեռեալս յոյս նոցա. որք համարեցան աստուածս զձեռագործս մարդկան. զոսկի եւ զարծաթ զճարտարութեան արուեստ, եւ զնմանութիւն անասնոց. կամ զքա՛ր անպիտան, զձեռագործս նախնեաց[198]:

13:10
10. But miserable they, and in dead things their hopes, Who called them gods which are works of men’s hands, Gold and silver, wrought with careful art, and likenesses of animals, Or a useless stone, the work of an ancient hand.
13:10 But miserable are they, and in dead things is their hope, who call them gods, which are the works of men' s hands, gold and silver, to shew art in, and resemblances of beasts, or a stone good for nothing, the work of an ancient hand:
13:11
Ապա թէ ոք ատաղձագործ հեւսն` զփայտ ինչ գեղեցիկ սղոցեալ` քերեաց ճարտարութեամբ զամենայն կեղեւ նորա, եւ հնարեալ վայելուչ անօթ պիտանի կազմեաց ՛ի սպասաւորութիւն կենաց[199]:

13:11
11. Yea and if some woodcutter, having sawn down a tree that is easily moved, Skilfully strippeth away all its bark, And fashioning it in comely form maketh a vessel useful for the service of life;
13:11 Now a carpenter that felleth timber, after he hath sawn down a tree meet for the purpose, and taken off all the bark skilfully round about, and hath wrought it handsomely, and made a vessel thereof fit for the service of man' s life:
13:12
Եւ զտաշիղ գործոյն ՛ի պատրաստութիւն կերակրոյ ծախեալ յագեցաւ. եւ որ ինչ ՛ի նոցանէ անպիտա՛ն եւ խոտան էր[200]:

13:12
12. And burning the refuse of his handywork to dress his food, eateth his fill;
13:12 And after spending the refuse of his work to dress his meat, hath filled himself:
13:13
Զփայտն խեղաթեւր եւ ոստովք վարակեալ. առեալ դրօշեաց մտադրութեամբ գործոյն իւրոյ, եւ խելամտութեամբ իմաստութեան տպաւորեաց զնա: Եւ նմանեցոյց զնա պատկերի մարդոյ[201]:

13:13
13. And taking the very refuse thereof which served to no use, A crooked piece of wood and full of knots, Carveth it with the diligence of his idleness, And shapeth it by the skill of his indolence; he giveth it the semblance of the image of a man,
13:13 And taking the very refuse among those which served to no use, being a crooked piece of wood, and full of knots, hath carved it diligently, when he had nothing else to do, and formed it by the skill of his understanding, and fashioned it to the image of a man:
13:14
կամ անասնոյ վատթարի ճշգրտեցո՛յց զնա: Ծեփեաց բռով, եւ կարմրացոյց սնգուրաւ զգոյն նորա. եւ զամենայն խնդբունդս նորա ծեփեաց հողով:

13:14
14. Or maketh it like some paltry animal, Smearing it with vermilion, and with paint colouring it red, And smearing over every stain that is therein;
13:14 Or made it like some vile beast, laying it over with vermilion, and with paint colouring it red, and covering every spot therein:
13:15
Եւ արար նմա տուն ըստ նմին արժանի. ե՛դ զնա առ որմ հաստատեալ երկաթով[202]:

13:15
15. And having made for it a chamber worthy of it, He setteth it in a wall, making it fast with iron.
13:15 And when he had made a convenient room for it, set it in a wall, and made it fast with iron:
13:16
եւ զգուշացաւ նմա զի մի՛ կործանեսցի: Գիտէ` թէ եւ իւրո՛ւմ անձինն օգնել ո՛չ կարէ. քանզի է՛ պատկեր` եւ կարօ՛տ է օգնականութեան:

13:16
16. While then he taketh thought for it that it may not fall down, Knowing that it is unable to help itself; (For verily it is an image, and hath need of help;)
13:16 For he provided for it that it might not fall, knowing that it was unable to help itself; for it is an image, and hath need of help:
13:17
Եւ վասն ամուսնութեան, եւ որդւոց եւ ստացուածոց իւրոց` մատուցեալ շշնջէ առ անշնչին[203]:

13:17
17. When he maketh his prayer concerning goods and his marriage and children, He is not ashamed to speak to that which hath no life;
13:17 Then maketh he prayer for his goods, for his wife and children, and is not ashamed to speak to that which hath no life:
13:18
աղաչէ` եւ ո՛չ ամաչէ: Եւ վասն առողջութեան` զապիկարն կարդայ. եւ վասն կենաց` զմեռեա՛լն աղաչէ. եւ վասն ՛ի թիկունս հասանելոյ` տարակուսելո՛յն մաղթէ:

13:18
18. Yea for health he calleth upon that which is weak, And for life he beseecheth that which is dead, And for aid he supplicateth that which hath least experience. And for a journey that which cannot so much as move a step,
13:18 For health he calleth upon that which is weak: for life prayeth to that which is dead; for aid humbly beseecheth that which hath least means to help: and for a good journey he asketh of that which cannot set a foot forward:
13:19
Եւ վասն ճանապարհորդութեան` զայն որ եւ ոտն յոտանէ չկարէ՛ փոխել. եւ ընչաւէտութեան` եւ գործո՛ց եւ ձեռաց կորովութեան, յանարգասաւորէն ձեռօք` զարգասաւորութի՛ւն խնդրէ[204]:

13:19
19. And for gaining and getting and good success of his hands He asketh ability of that which with its hands is most unable.
13:19 And for gaining and getting, and for good success of his hands, asketh ability to do of him, that is most unable to do any thing:
