16:1 Եւ ել Յովհան ՛ի Գազարայ, եւ եկն պատմեաց Շմաւոնի հօր իւրում. որպէս եւ գնայր Կենդէբոս:

16:1 1. And John went up from Gazara, and told Simon his father what Cendebaeus was doing.

16:2 Եւ կոչեաց Շմաւոն զերկոսին որդիսն զՅուդայ եւ զՅովհան, եւ ասէ ցնոսա. Ե՛ս եւ եղբարք իմ եւ տուն հօր իմոյ` մա՛րտ պատերազմի տուաք ընդ թշնամիսն Իսրայէլացւոց, ՛ի մանկութենէ մերմէ մինչեւ ցայսօր ժամանակի, եւ աջողեցան գործքն ամենայն ՛ի ձեռս մեր, փրկել զբազումս զազգսդ Իսրայէլացւոց[442]:

16:2 2. And Simon called his two oldest sons, Judas and John, and said unto them, I and my brethren and my father’s house have fought the battles of Israel from our youth, even unto this day; and things have prospered in our hands, that we should deliver Israel oftentimes.

16:3 Բայց արդ ծերացայ, եւ դուք հերի՛ք էք յամս իմ, փոխանակ իմ եւ եղբօր իմոյ. արդ ելէ՛ք մարտերո՛ւք ՛ի վերայ ազգիդ մերոյ. եւ զօրութիւն օգնութեանց յերկնից եղիցի ընդ ձեզ[443]:

16:3 3. But now I am old, and ye moreover, by mercy, are of a sufficient age: be ye instead of me and my brother, and go forth and fight for our nation; but let the help which is from heaven be with you.

16:5 5. And rising up in the morning, they went into the plain, and, behold, a great host came to meet them, of footmen and horsemen: and there was a brook betwixt them.
16:5 And when as they rose in the morning, and went into the plain, behold, a mighty great host both of footmen and horsemen came against them: howbeit there was a water brook betwixt them: |
16:6 Եւ ճակատեցաւ յանդիման նոցա ինքն եւ զօրքն: Իբրեւ հայեցաւ ետես զզօրսն թէ դանդաղեցան անցանել ընդ հեղեղատն, յառաջ` ի՛նքն նահատակեցաւ, հա՛պա` զօրքն միագունդ զկնի՛ փողեցան[446]:

16:6 6. And he encamped over against them, he and his people: and he saw that the people were afraid to pass over the brook, and he passed over first, and the men saw him, and passed over after him.

16:8 Փո՛ղ հարին` խրախո՛յս բարձին, ՛ի վերայ յարձակեցան. ՛ի պարտութի՛ւն մատնեցաւ Կենդէբոս. եւ անկաւ ՛ի նոցանէ յաւուր յայնմիկ վիրաւորք բազումք: Եւ որ մնացեալ էին փախստեա՛յ անկանէին յամուրսն[447]:

16:8 8. And they sounded with the trumpets; and Cendebaeus and his army were put to the rout, and there fell of them many wounded to death, but they that were left fled to the stronghold:

16:10 10. and they fled unto the towers that are in the fields of Azotus; and he burned it with fire; and there fell of them about two thousand men. And he returned into Judaea in peace.

16:13 13. And his heart was lifted up, and he was minded to make himself master of the country, and he took counsel deceitfully against Simon and his sons, to make away with them.
16:13 Wherefore his heart being lifted up, he thought to get the country to himself, and thereupon consulted deceitfully against Simon and his sons to destroy them: |
16:14 Եւ Շմաւոն շրջէր ՛ի կողմանս գաւառացն. խնամէ՛ր եւ տեսանէր զպէտս նոցա. եւ եկն էջ յԵրեքով, ի՛նքն եւ Մատաթի եւ Յուդա` եւ որդիք նորա. յամին հարիւրորդի եւթանասներորդի եւթներորդի, յամսեանն մետասաներորդի` այս ամիս շաբա՛թ է[452]:
